Q: How does clinoptilolite zeolite work as a GI binder?

A: Clinoptilolite zeolite has a rigid, negatively charged aluminosilicate lattice structure that selectively attracts and captures positively charged compounds — including heavy metals such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, as well as ammonia and certain environmental toxins — through a process of ion exchange within the gastrointestinal tract. Q: Why must ZeoBind® be taken away from food, medications, and other supplements?

A: Because zeolite's ion-exchange binding activity is non-selective within its size and charge parameters, taking ZeoBind® too close to food, medications, or other supplements could theoretically bind beneficial nutrients or reduce the absorption of co-administered compounds. Biopure recommends at least 30 minutes — and ideally 2 hours — away from other supplements, medications, and food to ensure selective binding of targeted compounds.*
